Destination: Hilton Head, SC

My Trip:

Some people go to Hilton Head for the world-class golf or the gorgeous Atlantic coastline. I went for a wedding. By myself. Again. Besides constantly answering the question "when are you getting married?" I was able to spend some time in Charleston, which is close by, and got to discover Hilton Head Island. There are a lot a nature preserves to hike and the golf courses really are great, which is probably why Golf Digest rated this place one of the top 15 in the country. It's also a tennis haven, with the Professional Tennis Registry headquartered here on the island that also has over 100 tennis courts. I love the Atlantic coastline. Much scrappier than the Pacific, is how I'd describe it. It's an east-west, coastline-personality thing. (I get very introspective when I travel to a wedding. By myself. Again.) And, this being an island, the Atlantic is a main focus of this place. I watched couples in love wade through the gentle surf and kayak along the shore while playfully splashing each other with their oars and toes. I spotted couples in love having their perfect pictures taken in front of seaside anti-bellum historic monuments. They even have romantic sunset dolphin watching expeditions, where couples in love can moon at each other over the setting sun and the groom can scream he's "The King Of The World". (Guess where the rehearsal dinner was held?) Not that Hilton Head is all couples in love. I spotted more than a few singles at the many - many - cool bars and lounges I visited while there.
