Destination: Hazelton, PA

My Trip:

Many New Yorkers have weekend/summer houses in the Poconos. I, sadly, am not one of them. However, I do have friends with a second address in this extremely hilly area just about two hours outside the city. No matter the season you travel here, you’re going to come across some amazing natural sights – in the Fall you get to experience the awesome colors of the changing leaves, the Winter with snow drenched mountains rising up for miles in front of you, the Spring with the new buds of the season blossoming all around, and the Summer when you actually learn just how many shades of green there really are. There are more than enough exciting lakes and rivers and waterfalls to hike, swim, paddle or just enjoy. Most of the towns of the Poconos are just like Hazelton, small town USA – with an influx of yuppies every weekend. However, the town diner still hasn’t changed management, a good conversation can still be had at the corner bar, and a deal can always be found at any of the dozens of antique shops that line the streets. If you don’t have a friend with a house, there are endless inns and B&B’s with endless charm that you can book for the week or weekend.
